Episode 22: Swimsuits, Sunglasses, and Shaving Cream, Oh My: Our Summer Solstice Selections
The days are longer, the sun is hotter, and the watermelon is sweeter in this summer season, and what better way to spend your time at the pool or on a road trip than listening to The Kitschy Kountdown. This week, we’re sharing our favorite things about these next few bright and sweltering months: drinks, color combos, activities, food, and more. As always, we’d love to hear what you love about summer.
KB: Le Croix. Be it passion fruit or berry, you really can’t go wrong with these refreshing bubbles, and you can even buy it in a 2 liter bottle- what more could you want?
KA: Taking it a step further, sparkling water in general is a delight this summer. From lime Perrier, to Topo Chico, to San Pellegrino, sparkling water can curb your soda craving and maybe ruin your teeth all in the same sitting.
KA: Fun sunglasses are summer staples FOR SURE. All the other months of the year are for classic styles, but the few months of summer are the time to break out the funky styles and experiment with different looks.
KB: Lette Macarons. Salted caramel, to be specific. Macarons are the new cupcakes, which makes total sense since they are tiny, and precious, and delicious. If you are not near a Lette, chances are there is a macaron shop near you, and chances are, it’ll be worth it.
KA: Swimsuits from Cupshe. Don’t let the fear of the unknown intimidate you from trying them out. They may not hold up year after year, BUT, it’s a great way to try trendy looks without spending a lot of money.
KB: Date night idea: head out to your local airport observation deck and watch the planes take off whilst enjoying your sparkling water on a summer night. While you can do this any time of year, there’s something so summery about watching the planes go by on a hot summer night.
KA: Summer is the perfect time for rewatching your favorite childhood movies. Specifically, The Parent Trap, Homeward Bound, and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
KB: It’s time to graduate from body-wash-makeshift-shaving-cream to big girl shaving cream. Enter Aveeno Positively Smooth Shave Gel. Smooth legs, no nics, and no abrasive smells makes this shaving cream a great option this summer.
KA: Red orange and light blue are the colors making KA’s heart beat fast this summer. Whether they’re separate or together, these colors are great options for nail polish, swimsuits, and clothing selections alike.
KA: Beauty Protector Protect and Detangle. This leave in conditioner detangler combo is perfect for taming your wet locks this summer. Whether it’s after a shower or a day in the pool, this spray takes the dread out of brushing wet hair.
KB: Tessemae salad dressing. Balsamic vinaigrette and creamy ranch dressing are KB’s faves. She swears the creamy ranch will change your life. Whatever flavor you choose, you can feel positive about making a healthy choice, which means you can eat that extra piece of pizza to balance it all out…
KA: Corn and watermelon. Summer would basically just be a 100 degree spring without these two quintessentially summer foods. Step it up and put some Tessemae balsamic dressing on your watermelon with some feta cheese and thank us later. You could even make some Mexican street corn if you really want to win some popularity contests this summer. Check out Shauna Niequist’s’ corn salad recipe, as well, and fully immerse yourself in the summer goodness that is corn and watermelon.
KA: Brightly colored sandals are the perfect addition to your simple summer outfit. Add some pizzazz to a solid colored t-shirt + jean shorts combo with brightly colored, funky patterned sandals and enjoy the fashion sweet spot of feeling cute and comfortable.
- KB: Voluspa’s Gogi Tarocco Orange candle is the perfect candle to give your home major beach house vibes this summer and make all your house guests swoon.
