Episode 12. Werk werk werk werk werk… Out: Embracing Fitness In A World That Embraces Pizza
This week, dear listeners, we are here to inspire you to embrace fitness in a world that embraces pizza. Don’t get us wrong, we embrace pizza as much, if not more, as the next person. However, we are excited to share some tips and tricks we have found helpful in counterbalancing our consumption of award winning carrot cake blondies. We hope you find these tips as helpful as we did, and if not, just remember, we’re not doctors or trainers, we’re just two girls who are trying our best...
Before we begin, you need this carrot cake blondie recipe in your life. After all, life is all about balance, right?
Find what works for YOU. Whether that be a structured class or Youtube videos in your living room, the best workout plan is the one that you’ll actually stick with.
ubpoint: if what you like to do is maybe a pricier class, check out Groupon or Class Pass for some money $aving options
You do you, boo. Do what you LIKE to do. Even if it’s a walk, getting active is the whole point here.
It doesn’t have to be a big production. A 10 minute walk > sitting on your couch all day doing nothing. Wanna sneak a workout into your day? Channel your inner 80’s workout star and wear ankle weights to work. Push wheelchairs or do calf raises at your desk to get that blood pumping. Bonus points for parking in that far away parking spot to get in those few extra steps.
Your mindset can make you or break you. If you are wanting to be, dare we say, sexy?!, you’re going to be constantly disappointed. If you aim to be harder, better, faster, stronger, you’ll be much more content with yourself.
Set manageable goals and don’t get discouraged if you don’t see results right away. KA weighs herself on Fridays because you don’t have to feel bad about your weekend brunch choices AND you’re not obsessing about weighing every day, but you can still track your progress. Pro tip: aim to lose 1-1.5 lbs/week for health and sustainability.
Vary your workouts. Take advantage of your planner to ensure you’re spicing it up throughout the week. Also, make sure you take time to rest.
Figure out what time of the day works for you. Be it early morning or after work, figure it out, and take the necessary steps to make it happen. Pack a bag with workout clothes in your car so you don’t have to go home and fall into the black hole that is your couch. Or maybe sleep in your workout clothes if you’re going to workout in the morning. Whatever it takes, y'all.
This is the tip that has changed KB’s workout life: plan what workout you’re going to do each day and have your resources pulled ahead of time. The amount of steps you can eliminate between you and the workout, the more likely you are to actually do it.
Recruit a friend to workout with you. You’re less likely to bail if you have a friend meeting you. Find a friend who won’t flake at your first disgruntled “I don’t wanna” and who is also around the same fitness level as you. Working out is hard enough without being intimidated/dragged down by your work out partner.
- BONUS TIPS: diet should be your #1 priority because you can’t outwork a bad diet. And make your diet sustainable, not a trendy diet because, real talk, it won’t last. Secondly, take your measurements to measure progress.
